Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup buttermilk

2 large eggs

2 teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup fresh peaches, diced

1 cup fresh blackberries

1/4 cup brown sugar (for topping)

1 teaspoon turmeric (optional, for color)

1 tablespoon lemon juice (to toss with the fruit)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.

Prepare the Fruit: In a medium bowl, toss the diced peaches and blackberries with lemon juice and set aside.

Mix the Batter: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, salt, and turmeric.

Incorporate Wet Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix just until combined; do not overmix.

Fold in Fruit: Gently fold in the diced peaches and blackberries into the batter, ensuring an even distribution.

Prepare for Baking: Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan. Sprinkle the top with brown sugar for a sweet, crunchy topping.

Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool and Serve: Once baked, remove from the oven and let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Enjoy: Slice and serve warm or at room temperature. This cake pairs beautifully with coffee or tea!
