Ingredients

1 lb ground turkey

1 medium jalapeño, finely chopped (seeds removed for less heat, if desired)

1/4 cup breadcrumbs (preferably whole wheat)

1/4 cup finely chopped red onion

2 cloves garlic, minced

1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped

1 teaspoon ground cumin

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1 tablespoon olive oil (for grilling)

4 whole grain burger buns

Optional toppings: sliced avocado, lettuce, tomato, cheese, and spicy mayo

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, combine ground turkey, jalapeño, breadcrumbs, red onion, garlic, cilantro, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix until all ingredients are well blended, but be careful not to overmix.

Shape the mixture into 4 equally sized patties, about 3/4 inch thick. Make a small indentation in the center of each patty to help them cook evenly.

Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat and brush with olive oil to prevent sticking.

Place the patties on the grill and cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C) and have nice grill marks.

If desired, add slices of cheese on top of the patties during the last minute of cooking to allow it to melt.

Toast the burger buns on the grill for about 1-2 minutes until slightly browned.

Assemble the burgers: Place each turkey patty on a bun and top with your choice of avocado, lettuce, tomato, cheese, and a drizzle of spicy mayo, if using.

Serve immediately and enjoy your spicy jalapeño turkey burger masterpiece!
