4 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)

1 ½ teaspoons sea salt

1 teaspoon sugar

2 teaspoons active dry yeast

1 ½ cups warm water (110°F or 43°C)

2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil (plus extra for greasing)

1 tablespoon cornmeal (for dusting)

Instructions
 

Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

    Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and sea salt.

      Combine Ingredients: Make a well in the center of the flour mixture. Pour in the frothy yeast mixture and olive oil. Using a wooden spoon or your hands, mix until a shaggy dough forms.

        Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic. Add a bit of flour if it’s too sticky.

          First Rise: Lightly oil a large bowl and place the dough inside, turning it to coat it in oil. Cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.

            Punch Down and Divide: Once risen, punch down the dough to release the air. Divide it into 2 equal portions for two large pizzas or 4 portions for individual pizzas.

              Second Rise: Shape each portion into a ball and place on a floured surface. Cover with a cloth and let them rest for another 30 minutes.

                Preheat Oven: While the dough rests, preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) or the highest setting. If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat.

                  Shape the Dough: Take one ball of dough and gently stretch it into a 12-inch round shape, using your fingers to push from the center outwards. Leave a slightly thicker edge for the crust.

                    Prepare for Baking: Dust a pizza peel or baking sheet with cornmeal and transfer the shaped dough onto it. Top with your favorite sauce, cheese, and toppings.

                      Bake the Pizza: Carefully slide the pizza onto the preheated stone or into the oven. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
